Apple’s iOS 18 is set to bring improvements to the emergency call feature on the iPhone, allowing for more effective support during critical situations. One exciting new feature announced at the WWDC 2024 conference is the ability to support live video during SOS calls on the iPhone.
According to Apple’s press release, this new feature will enable users to share live or pre-recorded video information during emergencies. This enhancement aims to provide rescue workers with a better understanding of the scene, ultimately leading to more accurate and swift assistance.
To initiate an SOS call, users will simply need to press and hold the power button along with one of the volume buttons simultaneously. The new video feature is expected to offer on-screen options, allowing users to start a live stream or send pre-recorded videos.
In addition to the emergency call improvements, iOS 18 is also set to introduce other significant updates, such as the ability to lock apps, customize the home screen, integrate a password manager and audio transcription, and the introduction of the Apple Intelligence toolkit.
However, it’s worth noting that the new Apple Intelligence feature will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, with users of other models having to wait for the official iOS 18 update in September to access the remaining features.
