Facebook adds a dedicated shopping section to promote e-commerce

Facebook is adding a new portion of shopping to its main app, capitalizing on the rise of online shopping during the Covid-19 translation rush period.

a new component in the app called Facebook Shop launched in the US on August 25. With the new update, users can browse and buy product categories on social media stores. The company previously tested this with a small group of US users and implemented a similar feature in its Instagram photo-sharing app in July. However, your Facebook doesn’t have its own e-commerce area within the app yet.

Facebook also said Instagram’s Checkout feature – a feature that allows users to pay for items directly inside the app – will be available to all US businesses soon.

Companies are increasingly turning to commerce to increase the efficiency of their existing advertising business for their audience while simultaneously generating more revenue from non-advertising businesses. Vishal Shah, head of Instagram’s product division, said Facebook had charged a fee for transactions on its platform, but that operation had been suspended due to the effects of the coronavirus. Marketing is believed to be closely related to Facebook Ads, which makes it easier for marketers to manage sales.

Facebook previously revealed a similar shopping feature earlier this year, allowing businesses to create a product catalog that works across all the different social networking apps, including Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. . CEO Mark Zuckerberg has paid more attention to shopping initiatives than in previous years, a signal that Facebook is placing more emphasis on commerce as its online shopping expands.
