Google and HP started producing Chromebooks in India

In an announcement made on October 2, Google said it had cooperated with computer manufacturer HP to begin Chromebook production in India.

According to Devdiscourse devices, the Chromebook is being manufactured at the Flex Facility near Chennai, where HP has been manufacturing a variety of laptops and desktops since August 2020.

An HP spokesperson also confirmed that Chromebook production has begun in India. The new Chromebooks are available online starting at Rs 15,990(192$) each.

HP is one of the applicants for the Indian government’s $2 billion production-linked incentive program for IT hardware. Chromebooks are priced lower than laptops with proprietary operating systems.

Google and HP’s joint statement said Chromebooks are the flagship devices in K-12 education helping more than 50 million students and teachers worldwide. Local production of Chromebooks expands the PC portfolio made by HP in India.

HP has been expanding its manufacturing operations in India since 2020 and from December 2021, the company started manufacturing a variety of laptops in India, including HP EliteBook, HP ProBook, and HP series laptops. G8.

The company has also expanded its domestically produced commercial computer portfolio by adding many models of mini tower (MT) desktops, mini (DM) desktops, and form factor desktops. small (SFF) and a series of all-in-one PCs.
