Google is about to remove the uBlock Origin adblocker from Chrome

Google has recently made changes to its Chrome browser extension system, leading to the removal of the popular ad-blocking extension uBlock Origin from the Chrome Web Store. This decision is part of Google’s transition to the Manifest V3 system, which aims to improve performance and security for Chrome extensions. However, Manifest V3 restricts extensions’ access to browser and website data, posing challenges for ad blockers like uBlock Origin.

As a result, Chrome users are now receiving warnings about uBlock Origin becoming obsolete and being removed from the Chrome Web Store. After June 2025, users will no longer be able to use uBlock Origin on Chrome and will need to switch to alternative ad-blocking solutions based on Manifest V3, such as uBlock Origin Lite.

This move has sparked criticism from users who believe that Google’s decision intentionally limits the ability to block ads on Chrome. Some Chromium-based browsers like Opera and Vivaldi have announced their commitment to supporting Manifest V2, while Mozilla Firefox is considered to provide the best ad-blocking experience and will continue to support Manifest V2.
