Google will allow AI Gemini Nano to run on Pixel 8 phones

Google is reportedly planning to introduce some of its Gemini Nano artificial intelligence (AI) features to Pixel 8 phones. Gemini Nano was announced by Google as a mobile-optimized large language model (LLM) in December 2020 and is expected to be a core part of Android. However, currently, only Pixel 8 Pro can use it due to hardware limitations.

The upcoming Pixel feature launch is expected to include a developer preview that will enable the Pixel 8 to support Gemini Nano, which will allow on-device recording summaries and feedback, as well as smart feedback in Gboard, similar to Pixel 8 Pro. In comparison, Samsung has already begun rolling out AI features to its previous generation flagship phones, which will use both on-device and off-device AI.
