In addition to the all-new Magic5 smartphone series, Honor has brought to the MWC 2023 exhibition in Barcelona (Spain) the world’s first silicon-carbon battery technology.

According to GizChina , silicon-carbon is Honor’s latest advancement to solve today’s smartphone battery problems. In the context of increasingly improved mobile device hardware, smartphone battery technology has not evolved, except for the increased size over the years.

Even if the battery technology is improved that is designed to withstand high capacity and high capacity fast charging, most of them are based on the same old lithium battery technology. Now, the arrival of new battery technology from Honor promises to completely change the phone.

In its statement, Honor said silicon-carbon battery technology promises 12.8% higher energy density than current lithium batteries. According to the company, the new battery also has a higher voltage rating than conventional lithium batteries when it can reach 3.5V. With this voltage level, Honor’s battery can provide about 240% improved charge. This made it possible for the company to increase the total battery capacity by 12.8% in the same size.

At the moment, Honor seems to have only launched new battery technology in the Chinese market. This is reflected in the announcement regarding the Magic5 Pro model that the company has just announced for the international market. While the international version of Magic5 Pro comes with a 5,100 mAh battery, the China version is listed with a capacity of 5,450 mAh – representing a growth of 12.8% in capacity. Essentially, the Chinese version of the Magic5 Pro is a test of new battery technology.

Since everything is still in the early stages of testing, it is unclear whether the silicon-carbon battery that Honor developed can make a revolution in smartphone batteries. In addition, it is not clear whether other brands are starting to think about this battery technology.
