MAMP stands for Macintosh, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Installing WordPress on a local host using MAMP allows you to manage, test, and create a WordPress site without purchasing a hosting service and domain. This guide will help you understand how to install WordPress locally on a Mac using MAMP.

Step 1: Download Mamp

download and install MAMP. You can get the MAMP software at MAMP.info.

Step 2: Install Mamp

To install MAMP, start by clicking on the MAMP .pkg file to launch the MAMP installer. Then, just follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation process.

Once the MAMP installation is complete, you can launch it by navigating to your computer’s Applications folder. In this folder, you will find both MAMP and MAMP Pro. It’s important to note that MAMP Pro is the paid version, whereas MAMP is the free version.

Step 3. Start MAMP Server

After you have successfully installed MAMP, open the MAMP application on your computer and click on “Start Servers”. Once the servers have been started, your default web browser will open a success page displaying some information.

Step 4. Create a Database

To set up a database for your WordPress site, you’ll need to enter the “localhost:8888” address in your web browser or stay on the default page MAMP opened after starting the server. Then, click on Tools, followed by phpMyAdmin. Once the phpMyAdmin page opens, go to the databases tab and name your database. After naming it, click on the “Create” button to create the database.

Have the “Database Name” in mind as you will use it to set up your WordPress site.

Step 5. Installing WordPress

Now that we have finished creating the database for our WordPress site, the next step is to install WordPress on our Mac. To do this, we first need to visit wordpress.org and download the WordPress installation files, then unzip the downloaded file.

To set up your WordPress files in MAMP, follow these steps:

  1. Open MAMP and go to “preferences” > “server”.
  2. In the “server” tab, you’ll find the document root. Click on “open in finder”.
  3. When the finder window opens, create a new folder and give it a name.
  4. Copy and paste the WordPress files into the newly created folder.

once done Open a browser and enter “localhost:8888” in the address bar. You’ll find your WordPress folder, click on it, and you should see the WordPress installation wizard.

After initiating the WordPress setup, you will be prompted to select a language. Once you’ve chosen your preferred language, click on “Continue.” This will lead you to the next page, which will provide you with information on the necessary pre-installation steps for WordPress. click on “Let’s go”

enter the name of the database that was created in phpMyAdmin. USERNAME and PASSWORD: Use “root” for both the username and password.

After completing the form, click on the “Submit” button and then select “Run the installation” on the following page. WordPress will prompt you to enter your site’s title, username, password, and email address. Once all the required details are provided, click the “Install WordPress” button to proceed with the installation.

To access your WordPress admin dashboard, enter your username and password.
