The latest reports indicate that Xiaomi is developing a hidden camera detection feature for its phones as part of the upcoming HyperOS 2.0 update. This feature will empower Xiaomi devices to recognize hidden cameras using WLAN signals, allowing users to identify any suspicious devices connected to their local Wi-Fi network. Named Hidden Camera Detection, the feature will trigger a warning message upon detecting a hidden camera, prioritizing user privacy and safety.
By simply tapping a button, users can initiate a scan for potentially suspicious devices. Once activated, the feature will scan connected devices and generate a report on any identified hidden cameras. This enhancement is expected to come alongside the launch of HyperOS 1.0 and the Xiaomi 14 series in the Chinese market in October 2023.
The inspiration for this feature appears to stem from a Python-based program called Ingram, designed to identify camera vulnerabilities through the analysis of IP addresses. Ingram includes functionalities such as signal strength analysis, SSID broadcasting, MAC address identification, and network traffic analysis. This security feature will be especially valuable for individuals who are concerned about privacy when staying in hotels, motels, or unfamiliar locations.
