iOS 17 can ‘save’ your iPhone if you forget the newly set password

If you change your iPhone’s password and for some reason, you forget this information, iOS 17 provides a new option to assist users.

According to MacRumors, iOS 17 will now allow users to reset their iPhone’s new password using their previous password for up to 72 hours from the time the change is made. Specifically, if the password is entered incorrectly, tap “Forgot your password?” at the bottom of the screen will lead to another screen with the option “Try resetting password”. Tapping this option allows the user to enter the iPhone’s previous passcode and generate a new one

To protect users, Apple also offers an option in the Settings app that allows users to set up previous password expiration instantly. This means that the user will no longer be able to use the old password within the 72-hour limit to reset the password.

The report also indicates that, in the first beta version of iOS 17, Apple retained the ability to change the password of the Apple ID account with the iPhone password. This is one of the limitations that have been exploited by crooks in device thefts. Back in February, a report from the Wall Street Journal said that thieves could track iPhone user passwords in public and then steal the device and change the Apple ID password to gain broad access. spread into the device.

Last week, Apple’s chief software engineering officer Craig Federighi said the company has continued to look at other ways to address the issue, but no changes have been made yet.

iOS 17 will be officially released later this year for iPhone Xs and later models. The operating system is also currently available in beta for developers to try
