iOS 17 has an error that automatically deletes user privacy settings

Some customizations in privacy settings automatically turn on after users update their iPhone to iOS 17.

iOS 17 has officially been released for just over a week but there are already some issues related to the platform.

Recently, two security researchers and iOS programmers discovered that this operating system automatically enables the iPhone Analytics and Significant Locations features in the user’s settings. previously disabled.

The issue was discovered in a certain group of users after upgrading their phones to the latest operating system version. According to 9to5Mac, Apple has received the feedback and is investigating the issue, and once again affirmed that the company always cares about user privacy issues.

However, the anomaly only appears on a small group of users and most iPhone owners are not affected by the problem. To check these two features, on iPhone, users access Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Service).

Here there will be a Significant Locations option – a feature that helps track locations users frequently visit and use location data for different tasks, for example predicting traffic conditions of the travel route. This feature is end-to-end encrypted, so any data collected is kept only on the iPhone.

Users can delete important location data by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Service > Significant Locations > Clear History.

According to security experts, although Significant Locations is a feature that has encrypted data, this information can still be abused because it records very detailed information about places that users often visit. Meanwhile, iPhone Analytics shares collected data with Apple, so both of these features are recommended to be turned off.
