Apple’s forthcoming major updates for iOS 18, iPadOS, and macOS will introduce a new “Recovered” album in the Photos app. This new feature is designed to help users locate photos and videos that may have been lost or damaged on their devices.
According to reports from 9to5Mac, once users update to iOS 18, iPadOS, and macOS Sequoia, their devices will scan for potential photos or videos that could be recovered. If any such media is found, it will be organized in the newly added Recovered album, which will be accessible in the Utilities section of the application.
It’s worth noting that the Recovered album is different from the Recently Deleted album, where photos are stored for 30 days before being permanently removed. Users are interested in whether the content in the Recovered album might eventually be automatically deleted. While Apple has not provided any clarification on this matter, more information may come to light in the future.
The introduction of the Recovered album in iOS 18 comes after Apple’s fixing of a bug in iOS 17.5 that led some users to rediscover photos in their library that they had thought had been permanently deleted. Apple attributed this issue to “photo database corruption.”
Apart from details about the Recovered album, Apple has made public beta versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and other updates available for users to download. This provides an alternative to the developer beta version, which may contain numerous errors. iOS 18 is set to bring various feature improvements and will be compatible with all iPhone models that support iOS 17.
