iPhone 14 and 14 Plus launched, priced from 799 USD

On the morning of 8.9, Apple announced the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus with a design based mainly on the iPhone 13, including the notch for the selfie camera and the Face ID sensor.

At first glance, the iPhone 14 looks much like the iPhone 13 on a flat screen. iPhone 14 models in the US also remove the physical SIM tray to switch to an eSIM completely. While the iPhone 14 starts at $799, the iPhone 14 Plus starts at $899. Pre-orders for this product line will arrive on September 9, but the iPhone 14 will ship on September 16, and the iPhone 14 Plus will ship on October 7.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus support the satellite emergency messaging feature when the user is outside of cellular signal coverage, known as Emergency SOS. Apple says it can take less than 15 seconds to send this urgent message and can also use the Find My app to share location without sending the message. This feature will be free for 2 years for iPhone 14 models.

The iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch screen. iPhone 14 Plus has the best battery life of any other iPhone. Both use the same A15 Bionic chip as their predecessors – a significant change for Apple as the company typically uses the same chip across its entire portfolio of iPhones released each fall.

On the front, both devices have a 12 MP primary camera with f/1.5 aperture and sensor-based stabilization, which Apple promises a 49% improvement in low-light image quality in when Night Mode is twice as fast as it is now.

In addition, the 12 MP TrueDepth camera on the front supports autofocus. Apple says it has applied technology in its new imaging system to improve low-light performance and colour rendering and calls the technology the “Photonic Engine.” Video recording is also enhanced with Action Mode, which uses the entire sensor for gimbal-like stability.
