iPhone Bluetooth Remains Vulnerable, Even When Disabled

Turning off Bluetooth on your iPhone is not as straightforward as it appears. The control center, which is frequently utilized by users, disables important functions while still keeping connections with specific devices. This feature leaves the smartphone vulnerable.

since iOS 11, iPhone users have had the option to disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi from the control center. However, many have noticed that the deactivation is not actually complete. In fact, even after you turn off Bluetooth through the control center, your smartphone will still be able to communicate with nearby Apple devices.

The Apple brand has a positive viewpoint. The Apple brand is harmless. In simple terms, this feature lets users improve their device’s battery life without disconnecting from their AirPods or Apple Watch, for example. However, this connection also poses a potential vulnerability for iPhones. In short, this feature allows users to enhance their device’s battery life without severing the connection with their AirPods or Apple Watch, for instance. Nevertheless, this connection also presents a vulnerability for the iPhone.

That is exactly what Jae Bochs, a security researcher, was trying to recall. Present at the Def Con, the annual Hackers’ conference in Las Vegas, the researcher had fun causing false login messages. Using a tinkered device for 70 dollars, Jae Bochs could connect to the surrounding iPhone.

When asked by TechCrunch, the researcher claims that, if he had wanted to, he would have been able to collect certain data. Includes passwords and identifiers. More importantly, he points out that the vulnerability of Apple’s low-energy Bluetooth protocol has been known since a 2019 study.

Clearly, Apple deliberately ignores the problem of practical issues. If you really want to turn off the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth of your Apple device, think about making a detour through the settings.
