A new tool known as GrayKey has emerged, which reportedly can access data on iPhones running the latest iOS 18 operating system. As highlighted by BGR, this tool can “partially unlock” most devices operating on iOS 18, allowing for the extraction of specific data. Notably, it can access all data on iPhone 11 models.
GrayKey was developed by Grayshift, a company that focuses on forensic solutions for mobile devices, often utilized by law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations. However, it’s important to note that GrayKey does not fully jailbreak iOS 18 at this time. The tool specifically works on iOS 18 and the initial update, iOS 18.0.1, but it has not been able to bypass the security measures present in later versions, such as iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2.
A positive aspect for iPhone users is that many are quickly updating to iOS 18.1, which includes additional security features from Apple. This swift adoption means that the majority of current iPhone users are better protected against the capabilities of GrayKey.
In response to potential jailbreak threats, Apple continues to encourage users to maintain their devices with the latest iOS updates. Regular updates are essential as they help to patch security vulnerabilities and safeguard against hacking tools like GrayKey.
