iPhone (and iPad) users are advised not to update to the latest version of iOS 16.3.1 from Apple if they regularly use the Google Photos app.

According to TechTimes, not long after Apple rolled out the latest software update to its mobile devices, users who installed iOS 16.3.1 discovered the Google Photos app started crashing making it completely. not available on iPhone and iPad. The report says that Google’s photo sharing and storage service has stopped working, and if a user tries to open Google Photos, the app crashes immediately.

iPhone users were quick to share their experiences on various social media platforms, saying the Google Photos app is currently unusable after installing iOS 16.3. There is currently no way to fix the issue that caused the app to stop working. Google itself has not resolved the issue.

At the present time, to continue using Google Photos, users are recommended to skip iOS 16.3. To prevent Apple from automatically updating the operating system for iPhones, users can go to Settings app > General > Software update > Automatic updates and switch iOS update settings to Off. However, this also means users have to accept important bugs and security issues that have yet to be patched by Apple.

It is known that iOS 16.3.1 brings many fixes, including some related to iCloud and Siri requirements for the Find My app. In addition, Apple also improved the accident detection feature, which frequently triggers false alarms.
