Kaspersky, a prominent Russian cybersecurity company, had proposed an independent source code review as a solution to address security concerns raised by the US government before being banned in the US. The proposal aimed to demonstrate that Kaspersky software was free from any influence by the Kremlin and to allay potential national security concerns. Kaspersky’s comprehensive assessment framework was designed to address most supply chain-related issues in product development and distribution in an effective and verifiable manner. However, this proposal was ultimately rejected by the US Department of Commerce.
Despite the rejection, Kaspersky is determined to prove its innocence and re-enter the US market by 2023, with hopes of accounting for nearly 10% of its global revenue. Kaspersky has also expressed its willingness to propose a similar review framework to the European Union, indicating its commitment to transparency and neutrality.
As part of its proposal, Kaspersky included measures, such as auditing local data processing, and ensuring that data processed in the US is stored within the country and does not contain personal customer information. Additionally, Kaspersky’s threat database would be closely monitored to ensure its security and freedom from suspicious activity.
Despite the challenges and tensions, Kaspersky remains focused on demonstrating transparency and reliability in its operations amid the evolving geopolitical landscape.
