Leaked pictures of the new iPad Air with a larger screen, Touch ID in the power button

The first alleged images of the new iPad Air that Apple will launch in the future are out of date, allowing users to better see some of the product’s features.

According to Neowin, the images published by Twitter user DuanRui contain instructions on how to use the tablet in Spanish and photos of the device itself. The new iPad Air appears to have a thinner frame and no rounded Touch ID under the display. The instruction manual content for the power button is a mounted Touch ID sensor on the same device.

The new iPad Air also has pins on the back for attaching the keyboard accessory. Interestingly, the images also mention “Type-C”, suggesting that Apple may be switching to a Type-C-based connector for the product. It is also mentioned that the Apple Pencil has a Type-C link as well.

If the image is indeed accurate, Apple will likely bring Type-C support to the second-generation Apple Pencil that came with the device. Support is only available via the Lightning port on the iPad Air launched last year. The images also show the device’s flatter chassis, which can hold a magnetic Pencil for charging, just like on the iPad Pro. It is not clear what processor will power this iPad Air successor.

It will be interesting to see what devices the company is showing off at the fall event. It is also not clear whether the company has changed some of its product launch plans due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
