LTE and 5G issues cause some issues on iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 series are the first devices to support Apple’s 5G service, however, some users are reporting they have problems with both 5G and LTE connectivity, especially while driving or traveling.

According to SlashGear, it’s hard to tell how widespread the issue is, but more than 500 users on Apple’s forums have complained about the issue. Many users described the problem in nearly the same way, and speculation suggests it is related to how the iPhone 12 switches network towers.

One user reported that after receiving the iPhone 12 Pro and activating it the next day, he was driving a long way. When he got to his destination, his iPhone 12 Pro had no reception and showed a box in the center of the screen that said the iPhone was not activated. To reactivate the device, he turned on and then off Airplane mode.

This user has reset Network Settings, then reset iPhone as new and reinstall from scratch just to find out the same problem. The user said that Apple Technical Support remotely installed two profiles on his device, which did not seem to fix the issue. Reports have appeared online suggesting a similar problem occurred on both Verizon and AT&T.

However, some T-Mobile users also reported the issue. Another user said that Verizon’s customer relations team reached out to him and said they knew the problem. At this point, it’s still unclear if Apple will confirm this issue, and if a fix is rolling out. It seems to be a problem with the iPhone 12 itself as it happens on many carriers.
