MacBook sales hit a record in the third quarter of 2021

Research firm Strategy Analytics indicates that MacBook sales have rebounded in the third quarter thanks to a drop in the MacBook Air prize.

According to Engadget, Apple sold 6.5 million MacBooks – a record number in the third quarter of 2021, up 10% from last year. Meanwhile, a report from IDC said Chromebook sales saw a decline for the first time since the pandemic began.

Overall laptop sales grew 8% year-over-year to 66.8 million units, largely driven by growth in the commercial and segments educational. This is achieved in part thanks to the higher discount policy for premium products such as the MacBook Air laptop and play games. Analysts say sales could have been even higher had it not been affected by component shortages and rising shipping fees that drove prices higher and caused some delays.

Notes from Strategy Analytics show that Lenovo topped the sales list for the quarter with 15.3 million units shipped, with HP, Dell, Apple, and ASUS in the top 5 with their respective positions.

According to IDC, sales of Chromebooks and tablets were flat, with Chromebook sales falling 29.8 percent year-on-year to 6.5 million units, largely due to market saturation. education after institutions spent heavily last year. Lenovo once again topped the list of Chromebook sales, followed by Acer, Dell, HP, and Samsung.

The report also added tablet sales growth slowed down when it fell 9.4% to 42.3 million units sold due to reduced demand and limited supply. The only exception is Apple as the company saw iPad sales increase 4.6% year over year to 14.7 million units to dominate the category. In second place is Samsung when the company sold 7.5 million units, followed by Amazon, Lenovo and Huawei.
