Mafia 4 is confirmed to be in development

The new Mafia game is still a few years away from reaching users, but 2K has now confirmed development is ongoing.

According to PC Gamers, earlier this year it was rumored that 2K Games studio Hangar 13 was working on a Mafia. Many also assume that development is being led by a new leader following the departure of longtime president and creative director Haden Blackman.

But this information was recently confirmed by 2K itself in an interview posted on mafiagame.com. To mark the 20th anniversary of the Mafia, general manager Roman Hladík has confirmed that development on the new game is ongoing.

“I am delighted to confirm that we have embarked on a Mafia brand new Hladik said. “Although it’s a few years away and we can’t share any more information at the moment, it’s exciting to continue working on this beloved franchise. “

According to rumors that surfaced in May, the Mafia will be built in Unreal Engine 5 rather than the proprietary development engine used for earlier and more interesting games, it is said to be a prequel to the existing trilogy of games.

The previous series of games revolved around the history from the early 1930s of the original game to the tumultuous late 60s of Mafia 3, so it is not surprising that 2K wanted to choose a different time frame for the latest game.
