The delay in rolling out end-to-end message encryption on its services could be difficult for Meta, at least in the UK. National legislation will secure cyberspace in 2023 to require the company’s technology to prevent child abuse. Meta could face pressure to make changes once the law goes into effect.

Last year, the US joined the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, and Japan in calling for encryption access to local law enforcement, allowing authorities to view messages. and the file is encrypted if the command is issued.
