Meta is said to be building a new app under the Instagram brand to compete with the social network Twitter.
Since Twitter was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk, many users have been looking for alternatives to this social network because they are not satisfied with the decisions coming from the owners of Tesla and Space X. Mastodon and Bluesky, the new social network developed by former Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, and the latest is Meta.
The latest move reported by The Verge is an internal slide from the Meta corporation, showing an app the company is developing to compete with Twitter. The new platform has yet to be officially named, with the code for internal use being “P92” or “Barcelona”, designed according to Instagram’s brand and guidelines
The app’s interface is quite similar to Instagram, but instead of showing photos and videos, the app’s homepage shows a timeline of posts that’s described as text-based. Users will be able to attach photos, videos, and links to these posts just like Twitter. Others can reply and create threads on the platform.
Meta says creators will be able to easily bring their audience to the new app, with users now having the option to follow accounts on Instagram with a single tap. The company says the new platform will have moderation features, as well as options to let who can reply to or mention your account.
Interestingly, Meta says it’s working on making the app compatible with platforms like Mastodon. Accordingly, users on other applications will be able to search, track and interact with your profile and content if the account is set to public
