Meta updates a series of new features for Facebook Messenger and Instagram

Meta updated the Facebook Messenger app with Vanish Mode and Split Payments features, and provided updates to Instagram for Safer Internet Day.

According to AppleInsider, the Facebook Messenger update focuses on new features that enhance users’ control over message content. For example, voice messages can now be 30 minutes long and Vanish Mode brings Snapchat-style messaging. Vanish Mode will make messages disappear as soon as they are seen, including sent text, GIFs, stickers, or reactions.

Meanwhile, the Split Payments feature allows a group of friends on Facebook Messenger to split the bill evenly or customize the amount owed by each person. In a group chat, a Split Payment request is sent with a personalized message, and members who haven’t entered payment details can easily do this right from the prompt.

As for Instagram, the social network is also reportedly adding new features focused on promoting Safe Internet Day. The Security Checkup feature guides users through the necessary steps to secure their accounts, and Your Activity gives users the ability to bulk manage content, interact…

Instagram also announced an upcoming feature that allows friends to confirm a person’s identity when an account is locked.
