Microsoft has officially announced the launch of its new Windows PC brand, PC Copilot+, during a product launch event. This new brand will feature AI-based chips designed to run Windows and the virtual assistant Copilot, with support from major chip manufacturers such as Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm. Additionally, leading computer companies like Microsoft, Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Samsung, and Lenovo will be producing Copilot+ PCs and launching a variety of models across different product segments.
The introduction of PC Copilot+ signifies a new era for Windows computer users, offering superior AI capabilities and deep integration with key Windows components. These Copilot+ branded models will run over 40 AI models as part of Windows 11, providing users with an optimal experience. Microsoft’s built-in AI assistant Copilot will also integrate OpenAI’s GPT-4o, which was recently launched.
Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and chief consumer marketing officer at Microsoft, has highlighted that these new PCs will be “unbelievably thin, light, and beautiful,” offering a breakthrough AI experience. They are expected to be at least “58%” faster than MacBook Airs with Apple’s M3 chip inside.
To meet the new standard, PC Copilot+ will require a minimum level of hardware, including an AI processing chip with a power of at least 40 TOPS, a minimum of 256GB SSD, a minimum of 16GB RAM, and a minimum battery life of 15 hours for computers running ARM chips.
Microsoft is taking a partner-first approach to manufacturing Copilot+ PCs, with support from chipmakers like AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm, as well as major OEMs such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The first Copilot+ laptops are available for pre-order now and will ship on June 18.
