Microsoft recently unveiled the system requirements for the upcoming Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024. This version will support older video cards based on DirectX 10 and will only require TPM and Secure Boot support as optional
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise is designed for specialized devices such as ATMs, payment terminals, and industrial automation systems, and it offers two licensing channels: the general availability channel (GAC) and the long-term servicing channel (LTSC). The LTSC version ensures a 10-year update cycle, making it suitable for devices with specialized functions.
Notably, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 will have reduced minimum memory requirements, needing only 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage space.
Additionally, the need for TPM and Secure Boot support has been removed, though they are still recommended for enhanced security. This version will also introduce official support for Qualcomm chips, alongside existing support for AMD, Intel, and NXP chips.
Furthermore, the requirements for graphics adapters and displays have been lowered, allowing devices to work with graphics adapters supporting DirectX 10 or even custom-sized displays.
The reduction in hardware requirements is partly due to the limitation of running no more than 5 applications simultaneously on these devices.
Additionally, the LTSC edition does not include the programs and security features found on Windows desktops, as it is intended for devices protected by firewalls and typically not connected to the internet.
