Microsoft has officially confirmed its plan to launch new devices at the “New Era of Work” event, which will be held on March 21,
According to Neowin, at the event, Microsoft plans to demonstrate “the latest AI (artificial intelligence) in terms of scaling capabilities in the working environment with Copilot, Windows, and Surface”. In other words, the company can make both hardware and software announcements.
On the Surface side, users can look forward to the appearance of Surface Pro 10 with Intel, ARM chips, and OLED screens. The Surface Laptop 6 will feature a reworked design with narrower screen bezels, a tactile trackpad, and more USB-C ports. More importantly, it will be equipped with a Snapdragon Elite chip from Qualcomm.
Pricing for the new Surface devices is unknown, but rumors say Microsoft will ship Intel-powered Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 in April, while ARM-powered versions will ship in June.
On the software side, users can expect information about new AI-powered experiences for Windows 11 and devices with the latest hardware and dedicated NPUs. Windows 11 is rumored to have “AI Explorer,” which will use on-device processing to help users keep track of their work and quickly get needed information in natural language
These AI-powered features will appear in the second half of 2024 as part of the 2024 update for Windows 11, or Windows 11 24H2. Sources indicate that some of the new AI features will only work with newer hardware from Intel, Qualcomm, and AMD.
The announcement of the event was made right after Microsoft discontinued Windows Subsystem for Android, one of the highlights of Windows 11 in the early days of its launch. With Windows 11 no longer allowing Android app installation, all eyes are now on AI and how it can boost users’ work
