Microsoft ends support for Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2 after 90 days

Windows 11 is approaching its third anniversary, meaning that the initial release (February 21) and the first feature update (February 22) will soon reach the end of their support period.

Microsoft has officially announced that both of these operating systems have only 90 days of support remaining. After this time, Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2 will no longer receive updates, security patches, or bug fixes.

While Windows 11 21H2 is no longer supported by general consumers, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions are still receiving updates. As for Windows 11 22H2, the Home and Pro editions will no longer receive updates. Microsoft has also stated that the October 8, 2024, security update will be the final update available for these versions. Following this, devices running these versions will no longer receive monthly security updates to protect against the latest security threats.

The end of support for Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2 also means that unmanaged devices will be automatically updated to version 23H2 to maintain support. Specifically, Windows Update will automatically implement feature updates for business devices running Windows 11 that are not managed by IT departments when they are nearing the end of their maintenance period. This is aimed at helping customers stay protected and work efficiently. Moving to Windows 11 23H2 also means that users’ devices will be supported and receive essential monthly updates for security and ecosystem health.

According to Microsoft’s schedule, Windows 11 23H2 is expected to reach the end of its support lifecycle on November 11, 2025. While the Windows 11 24H2 version is technically available on Copilot+ PC models, Microsoft has not yet included it in the official Windows support lifecycle documentation.
