Microsoft officially released Windows 11 24H2

The Windows 11 2024 Update, also known as version 24H2, has been released and is now available for download. This update brings significant changes to the Windows 11 operating system, so the update process may take longer than usual. Users will need to manually request the update by going into the Settings app, selecting Windows Update, clicking “Get the latest updates” and then “Check for updates”. If the system qualifies and there are no blocking issues, users can download Windows 11 24H2. Alternatively, they can download the Windows 11 24H2 image file from Microsoft’s official website and install the operating system. It’s important to note that BitLocker will be enabled by default on Home and Pro versions, but users can disable it.

Windows 11 24H2 introduces new features such as an updated context menu, improvements to the Settings app, HDR wallpaper support, Wi-Fi 7, refreshed battery and power saving settings, and an updated Quick Settings menu. However, as this update involves a “full OS swap,” it may come with some bugs and issues. Currently, there are up to 6 confirmed hardware and software problems, some of which have workarounds, while others will be fixed in future software updates.

For Home and Pro versions of Windows 11 24H2, there will be a standard support life of 24 months. Additionally, Microsoft has announced Windows 11 LTSC 2024 with a support lifecycle of 10 years. Commercial customers can download the 24H2 version through WSUS, Windows Update for Business, and Admin Center.
