Microsoft once wanted to spend $15 billion to make Bing Apple’s search engine

As part of the antitrust lawsuit against Google by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella became one of the first people to testify.

According to Neowin, in his testimony, the Microsoft leader told a story that portrayed Google as an insurmountable obstacle in his efforts to build a competitive engine search. He describes Google being the default search option on Apple devices as something that has crushed Bing and other search engines. According to him, without scale and user data, search engines like Bing cannot keep up with Google’s solution

It is known that the DOJ is accusing Google of paying billions of dollars to Apple to consolidate its position as the default choice on Apple devices. Understanding the value of providing the default browser, Mr. Nadella said Microsoft is willing to give Apple all the economic benefits of a search deal if it makes Bing the default engine .

Mr. Nadella estimated that such a deal would cost Microsoft up to $15 billion a year, and said it would be worth it to help Bing become bigger and more competitive.

Although Microsoft has had difficulty competing with Google’s search engine, it has recently achieved some success in applying artificial intelligence (AI). However, Microsoft’s Bing Chat also faces fierce competition from ChatGPT and Bard.

A recent report from Bloomberg shows that Apple is quietly developing its own search engine, and if Apple completely uses its own search engine in the future, it is also said to disconnect Google search to take over. market share
