Microsoft reduces Windows 11 ads that annoy Windows 10 users

As Microsoft’s support for Windows 10 is reaching its end, the company has ramped up its efforts to encourage users to upgrade to Windows 11. Initially, Microsoft planned to target non-domain-managed Windows 10 Pro and Pro Workstation PCs with full-screen Windows 11 upgrade ads. However, after facing criticism and negative feedback, Microsoft quietly revised its plans and stopped showing these ads to eligible Windows 10 devices.

In response to the feedback, Microsoft updated its announcement and confirmed that it won’t show upgrade ads with monthly security updates starting in April 2024. The company also stated that it will share a new timeline for the change in the coming months. As of now, the new timeline has not been disclosed, and it appears that Microsoft may need more time to finalize the process, especially considering that Windows 10 still has over a year of active support left, along with an extended security update program that provides an additional three years of security updates.

It’s important to note that all users with Windows 11-compatible PCs running Windows 10 may still encounter upgrade ads on startup as part of Microsoft’s revision plans.
