Microsoft updates MS Paint application after 38 years

After 38 years, Microsoft has suddenly released an update for MS Paint with support for image and layer transparency, making the application more modern.

According to Engadget, when launched, MS Paint only provided a pencil, brush, a few colors, and a few other support tools. Now, the arrival of two new features allows the app to become a little more useful for advanced image editing.

Besides, Dave Grochocki – the Main Product Manager of Windows Inbox Apps, also introduced new features and interesting capabilities it brings.

“When you combine layers, transparency, and other tools in Paint, you can create interesting new images and works of art,” says Grochocki. For example, when combined with the erase feature new background, you can quickly create interesting layered compositions”.

To get started, users need to click on the new layer option on the toolbar and this will open a panel on the side of the canvas. From there, users can hide, copy, merge, or delete layers just like they can do other layers. Furthermore, the photo editing software is also quite powerful.

As of now, the update is only available to users who have signed up to receive Windows Insider software builds. These features are not currently available to all Windows users but may be rolled out soon.

Although this is not a breakthrough, those who are still using MS Paint will find these features useful.
