Nacon acquires Daedalic Entertainment for $60 million

Nacon acquired the German game developer that owns titles like Deponia, Lord of the Rings: Gollum and more.

According to PCGamers, acquisitions in the video game industry have dominated 2022, and just recently, French game publisher Nacon has announced that it will acquire Daedalic Entertainment.

The German game publisher and developer is best known for the Deponia and the upcoming Lord of the Rings: Gollum , but it has also released an extensive series of games like Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Felix the Reaper .

The deal is worth 53 million euros (about 60 million USD) and comes after a relationship between the two from before, Nacon was responsible for publishing the game Lord of the Rings: Gollum . According to Nacon’s announcement, Daedalic’s current leadership team – CEO Carsten Fichtelmann and COO Stephan Harms – will continue to run the company with the high privilege of developing and publishing games. That is, under the agreement, Nacon will eventually acquire 100% of Daedalic Entertainment’s share capital and voting rights, so basically Nacon will have the final say on Daedalic’s activities for any what value. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Nacon was formerly known as Bigben Interactive until February 2020, when parent company Bigben Group merged it with Nacon, the gaming accessories company under Bigben Group.

In 2021, Nacon’s studio Frogwares and the game The Sinking City failed with previous public statements regarding Nacon’s failure to meet a funding agreement for the development of this game. Nacon has refuted the aforementioned claims and the version of the game is still available on Steam, under the name still published by Nacon.

The number of Nacon subsidiaries is growing, including Spiders (developing the Greedfall , Mars: War Logs ), Big Ant Studios (developing Cricket 22 ) and Cyanide (developing the Blood Bowl 3 , Tour de France 2021 ).
