Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 will inherit all Switch games

Nintendo has officially announced that the upcoming Switch 2 will feature backward compatibility with existing Nintendo Switch games, offering gamers a seamless transition to the new system. This confirmation was made during a recent policy briefing, where Nintendo highlighted that users will be able to enjoy their current game library without losing access upon upgrading.

The Switch 2 will allow users to play titles from its predecessor, thus retaining the extensive library of Switch games. Additionally, Nintendo has indicated that the Nintendo Switch Online service will also support connectivity between the two console generations, enabling online features and multiplayer experiences across both platforms.

However, details regarding whether the Switch 2 will support physical cartridges from the original Switch remain unclear, as the announcement primarily focused on compatibility with “Nintendo Switch software.” This ambiguity has generated curiosity among fans about potential support for physical game media.

The backward compatibility feature is anticipated to play a significant role in encouraging users to upgrade to the new console, as it helps maintain continuity within Nintendo’s gaming ecosystem. More information about the Switch 2 is expected to be released soon, with an official launch projected for March next year.
