Nvidia announced Project GR00T AI technology platform for humanoid robots.

Nvidia, a well-known graphics giant, is expanding its reach in robotics by unveiling a unique platform model for humanoid robots named Project GR00T. This platform model uses an AI system trained on vast amounts of data, which can be used for various tasks, from creating sentences to videos and images. Project GR00T will assist humanoid robots in understanding natural language and simulating movements by observing human actions. It can quickly learn coordination, dexterity, and other skills required to navigate, adapt, and interact with the real world.

Nvidia has also introduced Isaac Manipulator and Isaac Perceptor to enhance its robotics platform further. The Isaac Manipulator is a series of platform models designed for robotic arms. At the same time, the Isaac Perceptor aims to provide multi-camera, 3D all-around visibility for robots designed for manufacturing roles.

Additionally, Nvidia has launched the Jetson Thor embedded computing platform for humanoid robots, equipped with SoC Thor from Nvidia, which serves as the brain of the humanoid robots. The Jetson Thor platform is designed to securely perform complex and interactive tasks, with a modular architecture optimized for performance, power, and size.

Nvidia has partnered with some of the biggest names in robotics, such as Boston Dynamics, 1X Technologies, Agility Robotics, Apptronik, and Figure AI, to deploy Project GR00T technology. Figure AI recently made headlines by releasing a video depicting a humanoid robot talking as if it were human in response to prompts and performing tasks like picking up dishes and placing them in the drying rack.

Although humanoid robots promise to complete tasks that are dangerous for humans, they also raise concerns about replacing human jobs, much like other AI technologies. The technology required to help the robot recognize and move each item accurately is complex. In February, Nvidia and other companies participated in a Series B funding round for Figure AI, and the startup’s current valuation is at $2.6 billion.
