One UI 5.1 update causes Galaxy device battery to drain

Users should not rush to upgrade the software interface version to One UI 5.1 at the present time.

One UI 5.1 – the latest version of the user interface for Android devices from Samsung is experiencing some reports of battery drain after the update. On the support page of Samsung Italy, the owner of a Galaxy S22 Ultra confirmed that if he can downgrade the One UI version, he is ready to do it without hesitation after the device usage time is reduced from 7 hours to about approx. 4 hours in 5.1

The Reddit forum also recorded a similar situation when users of the Galaxy S22+ (Samsung Exynos chip model) reported a decrease in the battery after updating to the One UI 5.1 version. Many other members using models of the Galaxy S22 series also wonder when the daily usage time is less than before. But besides that, One UI 5.1 improves battery drain when left overnight, reducing it from 3% to 1%.

Not only causing battery drain, some owners also said that the device easily becomes hotter than usual. However, this may not be a cause for concern and users must be patient for the problem to improve after updating the device. A user with the nickname RoboWarrior44 said: “After observing the updates, usually the time to use the device at first will decrease but gradually improve after a few days. Hopefully, the same thing happens this time.” The cause may be because One UI 5.1 needs time to optimize the operation of the machine after it is installed.

One of the applications found to consume more power in the One UI 5.1 version is the Samsung Keyboard software (default of the device). According to advice from Samsung’s online support staff, users should clear the temporary memory and data of this application and then restart the device. But this also deletes the previous user’s language packs or keyboard interface settings. Another simpler solution is to use another keyboard software.

Currently, Samsung has not officially responded to the feedback on the forums. If after a short period of use, the situation is not fixed, the Korean manufacturer can release a new update to handle the above situation.
