OpenAI, a leading AI research laboratory, has recently denied a Reuters report claiming that it plans to launch a separate search engine on May 13, a day before Google’s I/O conference. However, OpenAI has announced that it will be launching updates to its popular AI models, ChatGPT and GPT-4, which are expected to be quite impressive.
According to The Verge, OpenAI is actively trying to recruit Google for a team that is dedicated to developing and shipping new products soon. Bloomberg and The Information have also reported about a search product being developed by OpenAI. Bloomberg has claimed that the search product is an extension of ChatGPT’s flagship, which will allow the chatbot to pull information directly from the web, including citations.
While ChatGPT has been touted as an alternative to online information gathering, it has struggled to provide accurate, real-time information from the web. Nonetheless, OpenAI’s latest updates to the model are expected to address these challenges and provide better results.
In the past year, OpenAI has undergone several changes, including the board’s controversial firing of Sam Altman in November 2023. However, Altman was soon re-hired by OpenAI investor Microsoft, and he returned to his position at OpenAI just five days after being fired.
