OpenAI has recently revealed a prototype of SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine designed to offer real-time access to web information. This innovative tool leverages AI models and current information to fill a gap in the standard version of ChatGPT. SearchGPT provides direct answers to user queries, along with citations from relevant sources, and accommodates follow-up questions, resulting in a more natural and efficient search experience.

OpenAI is dedicated to fostering a supportive ecosystem for publishers and content creators, with an emphasis on showcasing citations and source links on websites. Moreover, the company offers tools for publishers to manage their content’s appearance within SearchGPT, enabling greater control over search results.

Currently, SearchGPT is only available to a limited group of testers, with others able to sign up for a waiting list. OpenAI appears to be taking a user-centric approach by introducing SearchGPT as a pre-prototype, allowing users to test and provide feedback before its full release.

It appears that OpenAI’s ultimate goal is to integrate SearchGPT’s successful features into ChatGPT to enhance its overall functionality. However, the company has not provided a timeline for a broader rollout of SearchGPT at this time.
