In a recent event, OpenAI unveiled a new AI model called GPT-4o and introduced the desktop version of ChatGPT with an updated user interface. OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, emphasized that the new AI model was designed for ease of use and is superior to existing models in understanding and discussing shared images.
The GPT-4o is not only more user-friendly but also faster, with improved text, audio, and video capabilities. It is claimed to be twice as fast as the GPT-4 Turbo. Initially, GPT-4o will be available to paid ChatGPT users before being extended to the free version.
With the model enhancements, ChatGPT also improves, offering faster and higher quality responses and supporting 50 different languages. Notably, users can now interrupt the chatbot’s voice responses, allowing for different emotions and a more natural conversational rhythm. In a demo, users were also able to request the chatbot to speak like a robot.
OpenAI is now providing GPT-4o to developers, enabling them to create applications using this advanced technology. The model is accessible through the company’s API.
Although there were few announcements during the event, this launch is considered OpenAI’s most significant since the introduction of ChatGPT Enterprise, an enterprise-level chatbot, in August 2023.
