PlayStation 5 has sold more than 50 million units

The PlayStation 5 gaming console had the most successful Black Friday promotion season ever.

According to Gaming Bolt, after expecting “record sales” during the late 2023 holiday season, Sony announced that its PlayStation 5 console has sold more than 50 million units. According to The Financial Times, the company reached that number on December 9, about 161 weeks after the console launched (more than its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, which took 160 weeks).

In addition, Sony also recorded the most successful Black Friday season ever with the PlayStation 5 and is expected to exceed 25 million units sold this fiscal year.

Mr. Eric Lempel, Senior Vice President in charge of marketing, sales, and global business operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment, happily shared: “With the strong growth momentum in November and what is happening in month 12, overall we are very pleased with overall sales.”

Despite facing many supply difficulties in the early years, PlayStation 5 has gradually overcome them and achieved impressive numbers today, a testament to the strong appeal of this gaming console. In addition, blockbusters like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also contributed significantly to sales with 2.5 million copies sold in the first 24 hours of release and exceeding the 6 million mark as of November 12.

Looking ahead, the future of PlayStation 5 in 2024 is even brighter with famous names like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth coming out on February 29 and Rise of the Ronin on March 22.
