Pokemon GO is about to stop running on select Android phones and iPhones

Niantic has just sent a notice saying Pokemon GO will no longer work with certain phones and operating systems starting October 2020.

According to SlashGear, all phones will see a massive Pokemon GO update coming in October 2020. Niantic will then stop supporting Android phones 5 and earlier, as well as iPhone 11 and earlier.

Besides, iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 models will “soon stop supporting” Pokemon GO. But if you own these devices, users can still play Pokemon GO for a short time after the October update released by Niantic before the discontinuation of support “happens soon”. If you are using iPhone 5, 4S, 4 be prepared to change because you will not be able to play anymore.

The situation for Android phones is a little different. If you’re using a smartphone that was first released back in 2014 and haven’t received any major updates from Google since then, they should consider replacing the device. Google released Android 5.0 Lollipop in June 2014, and most of the major smartphones released after that date worked with Android 5 Lollipop until April 2015 when Android 6.0 Marshmallow was released.

If you bought a brand new phone in the summer of 2015, you will still be able to play the game, as only Android 5 and earlier won’t work with Pokemon GO since October 2020.
