PS5 Pro will be three times faster than PS5 when it launches later this year

Sony is reportedly developing a new gaming console, the PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro), which will feature a significantly more powerful graphics processor than the existing PS5 models. According to reports from Insider Gaming, the PS5 Pro will be released in late 2024, and its theoretical performance is expected to be around 67 teraflops (FP16) or 33.5 teraflops at more precision (FP32) – three times faster than the current PS5’s graphics performance of 10.28 teraflops.

The new model’s graphics rendering performance is expected to increase by 45%, while ray tracing performance could improve by 3x and up to 4x in some cases. The PS5 Pro also features PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology, similar to Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, and allows for increased resolution of up to 8K and faster ray tracing.

Sony-owned studios have been testing PS5 Pro development tools internally since September last year, while third-party studios have had access to them since January 2021. Though reports from the YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead are not always reliable, the confirmation from Insider Gaming makes the content of this report highly credible. The PS5 Pro is expected to be a highly anticipated release, with its potential to revolutionize gaming with its advanced graphics and performance capabilities.
