Safety Check Chrome browser can detect weak passwords

Passwords with insufficient complexity will be detected and alerted by Chrome browser.

The Chrome browser’s Safety Check feature (both PC and Android versions) previously had the ability to warn about compromised passwords, harmful extensions, and malware when you run it from Settings. And now the aforementioned feature supports the detection of weak passwords stored in the browser, but it is still in the beta version of Chrome Canary 89.

By default the ability to check password complexity is hidden as browser flags, if you want to experience the feature, you can follow the instructions below.

  • open Chrome browser.
  • • In the address bar, type chrome: // flags and press Enter.
  • • Next in the search bar, type weakness Password check.
  • • You will see 2 options: Safety check for weak passwords and Passwords weakness check.
  • • In the menu bar next to the 2 options, click and choose Enabled.
  • • Restart your browser to apply changes.
  • To check the passwords saved in your browser, click on the 3 dots icon and select Settings. In the left menu bar select Safety Check, then click Check Now. When it finds a weak password, Safety Check will notify you of that and display the Review button for you to check and change them for more safety.
