Samsung has a new order from Apple again

Apple is said to be pushing Samsung to speed up the development of mini OLED panels that could be used in the iPhone maker’s future augmented reality (AR) device.

According to Thetechxp, previous reports indicate that Apple has been in discussions with several suppliers about mini OLED displays for Apple Glass, including Samsung Display. A small team at Samsung Display is said to have worked on the technology before it was made public.

Previously, many forecasts said that Apple could use micro OLED screens for its AR wearables, but due to the expensive cost and limited profits, Apple switched to choosing mini OLED technology. High resolution and power efficiency are two of the advantages that mini OLED brings, which makes it suitable for devices like AR headsets in the future.

According to a report from The Elec, the AR headset is expected to launch in 2023, but this will depend on the development of mini OLED technology. Therefore, it is not surprising that Apple pushes Samsung to increase the development of mini OLED screens.

In addition to Samsung, Apple is also said to be interested in other manufacturers, including LG Display and Sony. These two companies will be responsible for developing OLED screens for AR headsets, which are different from the glasses on Apple Glass for which Samsung is a screen supplier.

According to the report, all three Apple partners appear to be in different stages of development. While Apple Glass is expected to launch next year, Apple’s AR headgear is likely to arrive in 2025.
