Samsung investigates an update that crashed the phone

Samsung is currently investigating complaints regarding a software update that is causing the phones of some users in Australia to hang.

According to Perthhow, Samsung Australia confirmed the investigation on January 4 after receiving reports that its software had rendered some smartphones unusable immediately after installation. The devices are said to have stopped working, showing only the Samsung logo.

A Samsung spokesman confirmed the issue appeared to be limited to South Australia, with all reports coming from the state over the past two days and not coming from anywhere else in the world.

“ Samsung has received reports from customers of problems updating their phones. Currently, these reports are only coming from customers in South Australia. We are continuing to investigate the matter,” a Korean company spokesman said.

Samsung Australia has yet to comment on which specific smartphones are affected by the software issue or how many customers have reported the bug. The company recommends that users contact their local service center to resolve the issue. Problematic devices may need to be reset, erasing all information from the phone, including photos, messages, and contacts.

If the information is accurate, the problem is said to affect thousands of smartphone users in Australia. According to research results of Kantar Worldpanel, nearly one-third of smartphones sold in Australia in the third quarter of 2022 came from the Samsung brand.
