Sega reveals why it spent $770 million to buy Angry Birds developer

Sega has ‘revealed’ the reason behind their spending up to $ 770 million to own Rovio Entertainment.

According to ComicBook, last month, Sega revealed its intention to buy developer Rovio Entertainment in a deal worth 706 million euros, or about $772 million. Many fans have found Sega’s job quite confusing when acquiring a developer who is no longer at the peak of popularity with the Angry Birds franchise.

During the investor Q&A session, Sammy president Haruki Satomi and Sega vice president Koichi Fukazawa revealed that they hope Rovio’s success will make Sega more successful with the casual player segment

“… Rovio’s titles have been very well received by mainstream players. They not only own Angry Birds, but also have a studio that develops mainstream games, so they own it. owning strengths that our group does not have. After the successful completion of the transaction, we hope to be able to take advantage of the expertise and capabilities that come from Rovio.”

Although the mobile game market generates billions of dollars in revenue each year, the reality is that some major publishers have struggled to achieve success with their mobile titles. ‘s track record Rovio in that market clearly makes them a hot commodity for Sega and shows the company’s dedication to the casual game genre.

After the million-dollar deal, it will be interesting to see how Sega’s casual game sales will change with Rovio’s impact. Sega already owns a lot of attractive brands, but many of them have not received much attention in the past few years. With Rovio fully under the Sega umbrella, the gaming industry could see a new strength coming from both companies.
