Siri will help you create apps for the mixed-reality headset

Apple is working on new software tools that will allow developers and customers to create augmented reality apps for its much-talked-about AR/VR headset, according to a report by Wayne Ma of The Information.

We’ve been hearing about a mixed-reality headset from Apple for several years now, and this one is long overdue. Apple has reportedly postponed the launch multiple times by now, and it’s currently slated for the second half of 2023. The American giant would have made this choice to refine the device’s software, and we may now know why.

Indeed, The Information’s sources claim that Apple is working on a tool that would allow anyone to create augmented reality apps with Siri. All you have to do is tell the voice assistant what you want. The personal assistant would be able to code an app, like ChatGPT, which could then be made available on Apple’s App Store for others to download.

Apple wants to simplify the creation of applications

The tool, for example, could allow users to build an application with virtual animals moving in a room and on or around real objects without the need to design the animal from scratch, program its animations, and calculate its movement in a 3D space with obstacles,” says The Information.

This includes the ability to ” scan and import real-world objects into the headset so they can be accurately represented in 3D and behave as they would in real life .” Apple would be far from the first to offer such a system, we mentioned, in particular, a similar functionality on an Epic Games application last year.

Luckily, Apple is also working on its own AR content for the Reality Pro headset, and that will go beyond traditional TV shows and movies, according to reports from Bloomberg. According to The Information, Apple wants content emphasizing “health and wellness,” such as apps that help users meditate and stay fit. It remains to be seen if the American giant will present all this at the end of the year, or if the mixed reality headset will be postponed again.
