Sony: There will be no ‘blockbuster’ games in 2024

Sony has announced that it will not release any large-scale first-party games this year.

According to GadgetMatch, 2023 may have entered the hearts of gamers with countless blockbusters, from Baldur’s Gate 3 to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. But just past February of 2024, the picture looks bleaker. Recently, Sony announced that there will not be any sequels or spin-offs of major brands owned by the company launching this year.

When it comes to exclusive games, Sony is second only to Nintendo. For many years, famous brands such as Spider-Man, God of War, and The Last of Us have conquered the hearts of millions of gamers. Any new game related to these names is guaranteed to attract a lot of attention.

But things will be different this year. Specifically, in an official meeting of the company, president Hiroki Totoki confirmed: “We have no plans to release any titles belonging to existing major brands in the upcoming fiscal year.”

Although State of Play recently introduced many exciting new games, most of them still fit Totoki’s claims. This year, Sony is betting big on third-party titles like Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin. In addition, it is also possible that the gaming community will witness new brands being launched by the end of 2024.

In addition to committing to the quality of game development, Sony has not explained the reason behind the delay in releasing this exclusive game
