Sony will start selling official PlayStation 5 cases next month

Sony just launched five official $55 PlayStation 5 cases, along with the DualSense controls the company launched earlier this year.

According to Engadget, the PlayStation 5 case offers users 5 color options Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple. “Simply remove the original white PS5 cases and put the new cases in place,” says Sony. The PS5 case will be available for both PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray drive and PS5 Digital Edition.”

Midnight Black and Cosmic Red PS5 cases will be available from January 2022 in regions including the US, Canada, UK, France, Australia and China . Nova Pink, Galactic Purple, and Starlight Blue colors will launch in these locations in the first half of next year.

Earlier, Sony also launched a new DualSense wireless controller in Cosmic Red and Midnight Black colors. With the arrival of the new PS5 cases, Sony also released three new colors for this controller namely Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple to sync with the new PS5 case. They are priced at $75 globally in January 2022 at retailers.

Quite interestingly, last year, a company called PlateStation also unveiled PS5 cases in colors like Red, Black, and Jungle Camo. However, the company later announced on Twitter that it would cancel all orders and process refunds “due to patent and intellectual property issues” with Sony.

It is now understandable why Sony is asserting its intellectual property rights so strongly. Since it can’t sell as many PS5 consoles as it wants due to semiconductor shortages, such accessories will provide the company with another revenue stream.
