Reports have emerged that Toyota, the Japanese auto giant, is set to integrate a system developed in collaboration with Huawei and Momenta into its vehicles worldwide. As per sources, this partnership is aimed at enhancing safety and increasing automation in Toyota’s vehicle models. Huawei will be providing the hardware, while Momenta will contribute the software for this collaboration. Toyota, however, will retain control over the user experience, make final adjustments, and control integration.
The primary objective of this partnership is to improve driver assistance technologies that can eventually make Toyota’s product line more autonomous. This collaboration is expected to be officially announced during the Beijing Auto Show, a major industry event that will be held after a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
It is worth noting that Toyota had previously partnered with Huawei on smart cockpits and connected vehicle systems. The automaker had also invested in Momenta’s Series C funding, making it clear that they want to make the most of the technology they have invested in.
With the electric vehicle market growing rapidly, Toyota is keen on increasing its footprint in China. Currently, they offer bZ3 and bZ4X pure electric vehicles in the region, but neither has been successful. Therefore, the use of advanced intelligent driving systems has the potential to redefine Toyota’s image as a tech-savvy automaker and enhance its competitiveness in the market.
