Users accuse AirPods Max of causing ear infections

In the US, AirPods Max has become a popular trend thanks to its fashionable design and is used by many celebrities. However, Apple’s expensive headphones bring an unpleasant experience to some customers.

According to The NYPost, Sarah Stusek – a writer living in Virginia (USA) shared on TikTok that her ears were itchy and had discharge after using the AirPods Max. But Stusek is not the only one having this problem, many AirPods Max users also complain about ear infections or allergies on Apple’s community support page.

Previously, Apple was sued because moisture accumulated inside AirPods Max causing the device to malfunction. When sweat or moisture forms water droplets inside the ear cups, they can leak through the speaker holes and damage the internals of the headphones. Despite complaints on social media, Apple does not consider this a major problem and has not issued a clear repair policy.

Although the lawsuit doesn’t mention ear infections, Anthony Cornetta, an otolaryngologist at NYU Langone Huntington, says anything that traps moisture in the ear can cause inflammation and lead to ear infections. bacteria or fungi, similar to the risk of ear infections among frequent swimmers. Although he does not think wearing AirPods Max is harmful to his health, he warns that this phenomenon may occur more commonly during hot summer months due to sweat accumulating in the headphones.

Studies show that headphones are filled with bacteria that can cause infections, so it is important to keep them clean, and free of earwax and moisture. According to Apple’s recommendations, users should clean the headphones with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. In case the device has come into contact with soap, shampoo, lotion, perfume, food, or other substances, users should gently wipe it with a slightly damp cloth and then dry the headset.

In addition, experts say users should temporarily stop wearing headphones if they experience unusual symptoms in their ears because long-term use will create conditions for moisture and pathogens to grow.
